There’s Nothing Like the Original

Northwestern Medicine Hip and Knee Joint Preservation Center delivers better care to help you keep the joints you were born with. As one of the first of its kind in the Midwest, the center offers nonsurgical and minimally invasive surgical options to help adults and adolescents delay or avoid joint replacement surgery. We use orthobiologics, hip arthroscopy, cartilage restoration, periacetabular osteotomy and other emerging treatments to protect cartilage in patients with pre-arthritic conditions. And we’re anchored by Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, which is nationally ranked* for orthopaedic care.

LEARN MORE

Northwestern Medicine Hip and Knee Joint Preservation Center at Central DuPage Hospital Alternative to Joint Replacement

Orthopaedic programs treating hip and knee conditions have traditionally emphasized surgical care for two distinct groups:

  • Older adults with end-stage arthritis of the hip and knee
  • Young athletes with acute sports-related ACL or Meniscus injuries of the knee

Patients and athletes between the ages of 16 and 45 may have hip and knee conditions that can lead to joint pain and accelerated cartilage wear at a young age. Frequently these patients don't get the medical attention they need early enough due to misdiagnosis. Unfortunately, when these patients do seek care, sometimes they need total joint replacement sooner in life than desired, leading to additional orthopaedic issues later in life including a less active lifestyle.

That’s why Northwestern Medicine Orthopaedics has established the Hip and Knee Joint Preservation Center at Central DuPage Hospital. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists offers joint preservation techniques that can help keep adults, athletes and adolescents with pre-arthritic conditions as functionally normal and active as possible. And we’re anchored by Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, which is nationally ranked* for orthopaedic care.

The Hip and Knee Joint Preservation Center offers surgical and nonsurgical options for preserving a deteriorating joint to delay or avoid joint replacement surgery.

Joint Preservation Pioneer

The center is among the first of its kind in the Midwest to blend a dedicated, multidisciplinary approach to hip and knee preservation with targeted and collaborative research and education efforts.

We are anchored by Northwestern Memorial Hospital, which is ranked No. 11 for orthopaedic care by U.S. News & World Report, 2024 - 2025.
